A 14 year old from Peoria County has been charged with second degree murder in the death of 50 year old Tony Collier. According to information provided by Peoria County State’s Attorney Jodi Hoos, the 14 year old and Mr. Collier were involved in an altercation on May 10th during which the 14 year old suspect twice picked up a block of concrete and threw the concrete at Collier. The second time, the concrete struck Mr. Collier in the head. Collier was able to be taken to the hospital following this encounter but subsequently passed away a short time later. Despite the charge of second degree murder and the objection of the State’s Attorney’s Office, the 14 year old suspect in the case has been released to their parents. State’s Attorney Jodi Hoos released a statement indicating that the state will be filing a motion for the decision to release the teenage suspect to be reversed. The teenage suspect was already facing charges related to the assault, prior to the death of Collier which then led to the charge of 2nd degree murder.
