Illinois fire departments and EMS providers have a reason to celebrate as the Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal announces the recipients of the 2024 Small Equipment Grant Program. A notable $4 million in grants will be distributed among 165 departments and providers across the state. Each recipient could receive up to $26,000, aimed at enhancing their capability to purchase essential small equipment. This year’s increased budget, up by $2.5 million from the previous year, means over 100 additional departments will benefit, according to State Fire Marshal James A. Rivera. The funding boost is a significant step toward equipping Illinois’ emergency services with the life-saving tools they require.
