Two Arrested Following Shots Fired Incident in Kewanee

Two people have been arrested and are facing charges following a shots fired incident in the area of the 1300 Block of Rockwell Street. According to information provided by the Kewanee Police Department, 25 year old Ashton Powers and 34 year old Desirae Dunn were arrested after an investigation indicated that Powers had fired a gun outside of the residence following a domestic dispute involving an ex-girlfriend. Officers on the scene located spent shell casings outside the residence and witness statements along with those spent shell casings led to the arrests.

A search warrant was obtained by Kewanee Police to search the residence where the incident occurred and that investigation led to the discovery of .380 caliber semi-automatic Sig Sauer handgun, a .380 caliber semi-automatic Baikal handgun, several rounds of .380 ammunition, 3 loaded .380 magazines, and a small amount of suspected crack cocaine inside the residence. Ashton Powers was transported to the Henry County Jail. On October 31st, 2022, the State’s Attorney’s Office formally charged him with two counts of Unlawful Use or Possession of Weapons by a Felon (Class 3 Felony), Reckless Discharge of a Firearm (Class 4 Felony) and Aggravated Assault (Class 4 Felony). The Class 3 felony for Unlawful Possession of Weapons by a Felon carries a potential sentence of 2-10 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. Ashton Power’s bond was set at $100,000 (10%) and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for November 7th, 2022 at 1 Pm at the Henry County Courthouse.

Dunn was released from custody with a Notice to Appear in court for charges of Obstructing Justice. Obstructing Justice is a Class 4 felony that carries a potential sentence of 2-5 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
