Two Kewanee Residents found Fit to Stand Trial in Court on Monday

Kassidde Swan and Aretha Shaw were found fit to stand trial in court today by Judge Terry Patton based on the recommendation by Dr. Brownfild.  Both waived their rights to a fitness hearing and the Defense and State both stipulated to the results of Dr. Brownfield’s reports.  Swan and Shaw have Preliminary Hearing scheduled for July 17, 2023, at 1 PM.

Aretha Shaw remains in custody on a $50,000 bond.  Defense Attorney Knox filed a Motion to Release Defendant on Own Recognizance to Reduce Bail Bond on Monday, July 3, 2023.   If there is time this afternoon after Preliminary Hearings, Ms. Shaw will be transported back to the courtroom to Waive her Preliminary Hearing and get a Jury Pre-Trial hearing date.  Shaw is charged with Aggravated Battery to a Child under 13 (Class 3 Felony)Aggravated Battery to a Police Officer (Class 2 Felony), Resisting Arrest (Class A Misdemeanor)and Disorderly Conduct (Class C Misdemeanor).  Read more here.
