A 16-year-old male was arrested and issued a Notice to Appear for the theft of two vehicles last night. Both vehicles were stolen and recovered within a couple hours on March 2, 2023. The Kewanee Police Department said the vast majority of vehicle thefts and thefts from vehicles in Kewanee are from vehicles left unlocked with the keys in the vehicle. The Kewanee Police Department said they rarely see vehicles physically broken into. However, leaving money or items of value in plain sight in a locked vehicle may provide incentive for someone to force entry into the vehicle. Remember to lock it up and don’t keep items of value in your vehicle.
