The United States Marine Corps Band is coming to Kewanee on Labor Day Weekend to participate in the Kewanee Hog Days Parade and to play a show on the stage as well. Mark Mikenas with the Kewanee Chamber of Commerce made the announcement on Monday that donations are now being accepted to help defray the costs of bringing the prestigious Marine Corps Band to Kewanee for a show and an appearance in the Hog Days Parade.
“This is great news the Military Bands always are a great addition to an event” said Mark Mikenas Executive Director of the sponsoring Kewanee Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber’s Ambassador Club has taken on the duties of putting on the parade for the Hog Festival committee for decades and always tries to bring some of the best parade entries to the end of the Summer celebration.
“The Ambassador Club is dedicating the Marine Band appearance in honor of Colonel Gary Miller USMC (Ret) who passed away in April. The Colonel was always ready, willing and able to help local organizations wherever he could and he had a can do no matter what attitude ” stated Mikenas.
“We are putting a plea out for donations to help defray the cost of the bands appearance which is quite sizeable, as they will be here multiple days. If any business or individual would like to help please direct any donations to the Chamber office at 113 E. 2nd St.”
The Kewanee Hog Days Parade is set to take place on Saturday, September 2nd, 2023, at 2 PM.
