Victim from House Fire in Geneseo Identified

The Henry County Coroner has identified the female that died in a fire late Friday night in Geneseo.  An autopsy performed on December 26th in Peoria showed smoke inhalation as the cause of death of 51-year-old Amy M Howard, according to Henry County Coroner, Melissa Watkins.

On December 23, 2022, Geneseo Police Department, Henry County Sheriff’s Office and the Geneseo Fire Protection District responded to a residential structure fire in the 500 block of North Meadow Street. Officers found two occupants that evacuated the house and that one adult was still inside. Officers and Deputies entered the home to rescue the occupant but were forced to exit the house due to the flames and smoke.  After the Geneseo Fire Protection District extinguished the fire, Police and Fire personnel found Amy Howard deceased in the house.

One Geneseo Police Officer and one Henry County Deputy were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation. The fire is under investigation by the Illinois Fire Marshall’s Office, Geneseo Police Department and the Geneseo Fire Protection District.  Anyone with information regarding the fire is asked to call Geneseo Police Department at 309-944-5141.
