At Monday’s City Council Meeting it was expected that the City Council would here from the owner of property located in the 700 block of South Street. The owner of the property is seeking a Zoning change to the property so that they can open a storage facility with solar array also on the property to power, in part, the property. Neighbors in the area object to the property being developed over concerns to their property value. Meanwhile, in previous Council Meetings, Councilman Chris Colomer has asked how much a storage facility such as this would benefit the City of Kewanee. This week, the owner along with a consultant on the project appeared and asked for more time to prepare a detailed plan for the property. In order to address the concerns of the Council, the owner has reconfigured the project to make room for a potential retail or restaurant location next to or near the storage facility. They owner needed more time to gather the details on the potential positive economic impact of the property for the City of Kewanee. Mayor Moore discussed this and everything else on the agenda for Monday’s Kewanee City Council Meeting.
