Boil order lifted

Emergency Management Director, John Winters, said Public works crews have repaired the broken water main and all Silvis residents should have water now.  The boil order issued for the affected residents will be in place for at least 24 hours.  The city will have another press release and social media updates when the boil order is lifted.  Residents may notice a little bit lower water pressure this weekend but this is temporary, according to John Winters.

For approximately a year and a half, the main that broke has had low water pressure because Silvis had not been using the water tower.  The City of Silvis began using that water tower again and the cause of the break is most likely because of the natural increase of water pressure from the water tower because of the elevation of the water tower.

The City of Silvis would like to thank the following agencies that assisted us while this water emergency was occurring:  Rock Island County Emergency Management Agency, Scott County Emergency Management Agency, Henry County Emergency Management Agency, MABAS-IL, City of Moline, and the Carbon Cliff-Barstow Fire Protection District along with stores that supplied water to the hospital and other health care facilities for hand washing and other sanitation needs.
