The Kewanee League of Women Voters will hold a candidates forum on March 28th for those in competitive elections on April 4th, 2023. WKEI RegionalMediaNews.com 1450 AM and 100.1 FM is partnering with the League of Women Voters to broadcast this candidate forum live on the radio and via our RegionalMediaNews.com Facebook page. Candidates in competitive races include three people running for two seats on the Kewanee City Council as well as competitive races for seats on the Kewanee Parks Board and the Board of Trustees for Black Hawk College. The candidate forum will take place at Kewanee City Hall beginning at 7 PM on Tuesday, March 28th, 2023. The consolidated election in Henry County is set for Tuesday, April 4th, 2023. The format for the candidate forum is below…
FORMAT
The moderator will explain the format to the audience, give an overview of the office, and introduce the candidates.
Each candidate will give a short opening statement in ballot order. In this statement, introduce yourself, tell why you are running, give your background, and address any issues that you feel are important. This statement should not be longer than two minutes.
Next, there will be a question-and-answer period involving the audience. The audience members will ask the questions at a mike. They will identify themselves before asking questions. Questioners will not be allowed to engage in a conversation with you. Also, there will be questions asked by the moderator that were mailed to the moderator. Candidates may respond to each question only once for a maximum of one minute.
Each candidate may make a closing statement no longer than two minutes. The order will be in reverse order of the ballot.
The moderator will make closing remarks.
