Adriana Landeros and Dulce Contreras joined Wake Up Tri-Counties to discuss the upcoming Kewanee Hispanic Heritage Celebration on September 28, 2024, on East 3rd Street by End Zone Sports Bar. The event is hosted by the Kewanee Commission on Human Relations and is from 4 to 11 PM. Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated from September 15th to October 15th yearly. This is the second year of the Hispanic Heritage Celebration, and it’s full of family-friendly activities. There is a jalapeno eating contest to try and break the record of 16 jalapenos in one minute from 7 to 7:15 PM; you must sign a waiver before participating. The winner gets a trophy and prize package. There will be live music and dancing. Watch the Kewanee Hispanic Heritage Celebration Facebook page on how to win $50 off your water bill (applicable to Kewanee only). Don’t miss out on the fun! Volunteers are needed to help with setup and cleanup before and after the event. If you can volunteer, contact the Kewanee Hispanic Heritage Celebration Facebook page or email [email protected]. Kewanee Mayor Gary Moore will be reading a proclamation for National Hispanic Heritage Month at tonight’s Kewanee City Council Meeting at 7 PM.
