Kewanee Parks Director Andy Dwyer joined Wake Up Tri-Counties to explain the reasons why motorized or electric scooters, bikes, golf carts, skateboards, and similar devices are banned in Windmont Park; the dog park grand opening on July 3rd; the splash pad update; the wiffle ball league; and the movie in the park on June 27th. A host of changes and new activities are underway in Kewanee parks. The Park District has issued an immediate ban on motorized and electric scooters, bikes, and similar devices at Windmont Park, citing ongoing safety concerns. Only manually powered options are permitted, with pedestrians prioritized on all paths. Meanwhile, anticipation is growing for the Chautauqua Park dog park’s grand opening on July 3rd at 10 AM, providing a vibrant social space for dogs and their owners alike. The splash pad’s debut depends on weather-related delays, but the Oasis Pool is open in Northeast Park, and registration is open for a new wiffle ball league beginning July 13th. Visit the district’s website and Facebook page for more details.

The Kewanee Park District has imposed a new policy at Windmont Park, prohibiting motorized and electric scooters, bikes, golf carts, and skateboards. Only manually propelled devices are now permitted, aiming to give pedestrians the right of way on all walking paths. This move comes after repeated incidents of unsafe and disrespectful behavior by some park visitors. Officials are also considering similar restrictions for other local parks, taking into account complaints and park usage. Anyone witnessing violations of the policy is encouraged to contact the Kewanee Police Department as the new rules take effect immediately.

A new space for canine companions and their owners is set to open in Kewanee this July at Chautauqua Park. The Kewanee Park District will celebrate the grand opening of its much-anticipated dog park at 10 AM on July 3rd. This addition aims to provide a safe, social environment for dogs to exercise and play while pet owners connect with fellow animal lovers. Park officials encourage the community to bring their furry friends and help mark the occasion. The event, open to all, highlights Kewanee’s ongoing efforts to enhance recreational opportunities for residents and their pets. Don’t miss out on the festivities and fun! Listen to Regional Media WKEI on 102.1 FM and 1450 AM on Thursday, June 26, 2025, at 8:15 AM to hear Kewanee Parks Director Andy Dwyer give updates on Kewanee Parks.

Please remember that a Kewanee ordinance requires pets to be on a leash.

Kewanee is inviting residents to step up to the plate this summer as the Park District introduces a brand-new Wiffle Ball league at Chautauqua Park, featuring Coltin Quagliano. Teams can participate for a $50 registration fee, with games scheduled every Sunday from July 13th to August 17th. The league caters to both beginners and experienced players, creating a welcoming yet spirited atmosphere. Interested participants are encouraged to sign up by July 9, 2025. Further information is available through the Kewanee Park District’s website and social media channels, promising a season filled with friendly competition and classic summer fun.

Kewanee’s Northeast Park is set to host a community movie night on the soccer fields, featuring Disney’s Moana 2 on June 27th. The screening will start at dusk, giving families and friends a chance to enjoy an evening under the stars. Attendees are encouraged to bring their blankets, lawn chairs, and picnics; however, alcohol is not allowed on the premises. Children age 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult to attend. It’s a fun opportunity for neighborhoods to come together while enjoying the latest adventure from Moana. Don’t miss this family-friendly event at Northeast Park. “Movie in the Park” is sponsored by IH Mississippi Valley Credit Union (IHMCU).
