RaeAnn Tucker joined Wake Up Tri-Counties to talk about heat safety, insurance navigators, the Stark County fair, school physicals, and state awards. Health and wellness are in focus this month across Stark and Henry Counties. At the Stark County Junior Fair, community members will find free blood pressure screenings, gun locks, and valuable health information at the Wyoming Fairgrounds on July 25th. Meanwhile, the Get Covered Illinois Navigator Program offers help with health insurance signups—catch their team at the Colona Library Petting Zoo on July 17th or Geneseo’s Sidewalk Sales on July 25th. Amid this busy season, temperatures over 90 degrees prompt a reminder to stay hydrated and avoid peak heat. Visit local health department websites for resources and safety tips.

Candis Gradert, a dedicated lead homecare assistant with the Henry and Stark County Health Departments, has been named the 2025 Mary I. Hill Homecare Aide of the Year by the Illinois Association of Community Care Program Homecare Providers. Gradert, who’s served area seniors for over nine years, was recognized for her outstanding commitment to providing in-home assistance, including housekeeping, cooking, laundry, and personal care. Home Services Director Missy Schilling praised Gradert’s caring service and emphasized the ongoing demand for devoted aides. To learn more about homecare services or employment opportunities, contact the Health Department or visit their website and social media platforms.

“Candis was honored because of her excellent care and service of over 9 years with the Health Department,” says Missy Schilling, Home Services Director with the Health Department.

Health and wellness will take center stage at this year’s Stark County Junior Fair. On Friday, July 25th, from 11 AM to 3 PM, the Stark County Health Department and First Choice Healthcare Toulon Clinic will host an outreach display at the Wyoming Fairgrounds. Visitors can take advantage of free blood pressure checks, pick up complimentary gun locks and other giveaways, and gather helpful health information. Staff members from both organizations invite fairgoers to stop by, get screened, enter promotions, and spend some time chatting about community health resources. It’s a unique opportunity to combine fun and better health.

With temperatures soaring past 90 degrees this week, the Henry and Stark County Health Departments urge residents to take extra precautions against heat-related illnesses. Excessive heat can cause fatigue, heat cramps, heat exhaustion, or even life-threatening heat stroke. Older adults, young children, and those with chronic conditions are especially at risk. Officials recommend avoiding outdoor activities from noon to 4 PM, staying hydrated, wearing light clothing, and using fans or visiting air-conditioned spaces. Never leave children or pets in vehicles. Remember to check on vulnerable friends, neighbors, and animals. For more tips, visit henrystarkhealth.com or call 309-852-0197.
