Sara Billiet joined Wake Up Tri-Counties to talk about what’s happening in July at the Kewanee Public Library. The Kewanee Public Library is wrapping up its successful summer reading program for children, which officially concludes on July 7th. Prizes should be claimed by then, but arrangements can be made if notified in advance. Story times continue through July, with both in-person and Facebook options available. Adults can look forward to a packed schedule, including a “Jaws” movie night for Shark Week, a native pollinator gardening session, an investing workshop, and a Scrabble tile coaster craft. The library is also seeking a young adult clerk for a 16-hour position focused on programming for teens. Details are on the library’s website and Facebook page.

The Kewanee Public Library District is hiring for a Young Adult Clerk in its Information Services Department. This part-time role offers 16 hours per week at $15 per hour. The position centers on engaging local teens through program planning, collection development, marketing, and outreach to area schools. Applicants should have one to two years of customer service experience, some work history with teens, strong communication skills, and computer literacy. A valid driver’s license is required for travel to meetings and workshops. Interested candidates should submit a resume and cover letter to Director Cynthia Maxwell at [email protected].

Registration is now open for the Level Up At Your Library 2025 Summer Reading Program at KPLD. To help participants track their reading goals, the Beanstack app is available from May 27 through July 7. Everyone—adults, teens, and kids—is invited to join in and read throughout the summer season. Readers who participate have the chance to win exciting prizes, plus enjoy crafts and games at the library. Remember, the program and prize eligibility run only from May 27 to July 7, 2025. Signing up not only supports literacy but also community fun.

Story Time sessions for babies through preschoolers return to the 2nd Floor Youth Department beginning May 27 at 11:15 am. Summer Sessions require no registration, with Baby to Pre-K Story Time every Tuesday and Music and Movement Story Time on Thursdays, both at 11:15 am. After each session, families can join Ms. Lisa outside for bubbles, chalk drawing, and popsicles. For those unable to attend in person, Ms. Sara hosts a virtual story time each Tuesday at 1:00 pm on Facebook Live, with all sessions available for later viewing on the library’s Facebook page.
