Summer is officially underway at the Kewanee Public Library, where the annual summer reading program has just kicked off and welcomes participants of all ages. Youth Services Manager Sarah Billiott highlights the annual program, which runs through July 18th and welcomes new participants anytime before it ends. Both children and adults can track their reading in the Beanstack app or with traditional paper logs and earn prizes just for reading. Signing up for the summer reading program is simple—just bring a photo ID and proof of address to the service desk. The library card is free, and district boundaries stretch into Stark County and beyond Kewanee. All events and participation are free. Summer Reading Program for Teens at the Kewanee Public Library
Junior high and high school students have a great way to cool off and connect this summer at the Lower Level Young Adult Room. The “Plant a Seed, Read!” Summer Reading Program is offering weekly activities all season long. Every Friday, the Youth Gaming Lounge opens its doors for console gaming, featuring the latest systems—Xbox Series X, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2. Participants are also encouraged to join the Summer Reading Challenge: track your reading habits and win prizes for enjoying books, manga, or graphic novels. Gather your friends, play games, and discover new stories in the YA room.
Excitement is building at the Kewanee Public Library District with a full schedule of summer activities for young adults entering grades 6 through 9. Highlights include crafting Mosaic Flower Pots on May 27th, a Sphero Robots tech session on May 30th, and an “Escape from the Old Mill” room challenge offered on June 8th and June 10th. Dungeons & Dragons enthusiasts can join a game on June 13th, while creative hands can make Anime Coasters and D&D-themed crafts later in June. Running from Thursday, June 4, through Saturday, June 6, the sale takes place in the 2nd Floor Community Room, conveniently accessible by elevator. Weekly Game Night for Junior High and High School Students at Kewanee Public Library
The Kewanee Public Library is turning up the fun this summer with its new weekly gaming lounge every Friday in the Lower Level Young Adult Room. Junior high and high school students are invited to try their hand at top platforms, including Xbox Series X, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2, with a different console featured each week.
