Sergeant Eric Bernal joined Wake Up Tri-Counties to talk about the first, and possibly annual, Back-to-School event at the Kewanee National Guard. The Illinois Army National Guard is gearing up for a Back to School Guard Night, scheduled for August 8th from 4 to 8 PM at 111 North East Street in Kewanee. The event promises hands-on experiences, including a chance to explore military vehicles and equipment, as well as an exciting obstacle course for all ages. Attendees can participate in a Q&A with Guard members and compete for a variety of prizes. Free hot dogs, chips, and drinks will be available throughout the evening, as supplies last. For further details or to confirm your attendance, reach out to SSG Eric Bernal at 708-305-8839. All activities are outside, so please dress appropriately for the weather.

The Illinois National Guard in Kewanee is hosting its first-ever back-to-school event, thanks to the initiative of Sergeant Bernal. This gathering aims to give back to the community, with a focus on supporting local families as students prepare for the new school year. Attendees will have the chance to learn more about the Guard’s mission and ongoing service, as well as win prizes and meet local service members. Organizers hope a strong turnout will help make this gathering an annual tradition. Community members are encouraged to participate, connect, and make this inaugural event a lasting success for years to come.
