A Wataga man faces several serious charges after Knox County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a well-being check on January 4th. Authorities investigated reports that Jon P. Benson, 50, had allegedly shot and killed his dog and had firearms, despite a felony conviction. A search of the residence revealed multiple firearms, a deceased dog, and suspected drug paraphernalia. Benson was arrested at the scene without incident. He faces multiple felony firearm charges, reckless discharge of a firearm, disorderly conduct, and violation of the Humane Care for Animals Act. He remains in custody at the Knox County Jail.
