Hillary Humes (Macomb) will coach her second VOLLEYBALL All-State Classic!
Her love for the game first began when she was 10-years old, watching her older sister compete in the IHSA State Tournament. That love continued to grow as her sister moved on to play at the collegiate level at Truman State University and then professionally in the AVP beach volleyball league. Although she made two state appearances herself, her career as a player stopped after high school but that is where Hillary found her love for coaching.
Coach Humes began coaching in 2018 while living in California. She coached for the So Cal Spitfires club team as the head coach for the 13s team and the assistant coach for their 15s team until 2020. After moving back to Macomb, IL, she began coaching at Macomb High School and Junior High in 2021, first as the freshman coach and the 7th grade coach, but has since stepped into the role of JV and 8th grade coach for the program. During the offseason, Coach Humes also runs the junior volleyball clinic for 5th and 6th grade and coaches the 12u club team in the spring. Her favorite part of coaching is seeing the players get to a point where they no longer need to look to their coach for guidance during the game, especially after an error. She knows she has done her job when they are comfortable using the tools given to them and trusting the work that they’ve put in.
Coach Humes coaches with her twin sister, Haley, who has a fierce love for the game as well.
