MACOMB, IL – The Illinois State Police (ISP) has released information regarding their investigation into the officer-involved shooting that occurred late Saturday during a call for an active domestic disturbance on N. Charles St in Macomb.  The Macomb Police Department requested ISP investigate the incident.

According to a press release issued by the ISP, after reviewing body worn camera video, evidence, witness interviews, and autopsy reports, preliminary investigative findings indicate officers encountered the suspect, Anthony T. George, 57, holding a knife.  George then ducked out of view of officers and emerged holding a 4-year-old child in front of his body while holding a knife around the child’s throat and another around the waist.  Evidence shows an officer fired one shot from his firearm and both the subject and the child suffered fatal gunshot injuries.  Per the coroner’s policy, juveniles’ names are not released.

ISP has met with the families of both the child and the subject.  Once its investigation is final, ISP will provide all investigative reports and evidence to the McDonough County State’s Attorney’s Office.

The investigation is still ongoing and no additional information is available at this time.
