    IMPACTS
    The dangerously cold wind chills could cause frostbite on exposed skin in 30 minutes or less. Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin is exposed to these temperatures.
    PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS
    Wear appropriate clothing, a hat, and gloves. Keep pets indoors as much as possible. Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors. Ensure portable heaters are used correctly. Do not use generators or grills inside.

McDonough County Issues Burn Ban Under New Ordinance

The McDonough County Board and the McDonough County Emergency Services and Disaster Agency (ESDA) announce that a burn ban is now in effect across unincorporated areas of McDonough County. This action is being taken under the recently adopted McDonough County Open Burning Ordinance to protect the public’s health, safety, and property.

Ban Details

Effective immediately, all open burning is prohibited in unincorporated McDonough County until further notice. The prohibition applies to all property owners, tenants, and agents within the county’s unincorporated areas.

Enforcement and Penalties

Any person found in violation of this ordinance will be subject to fines:

  • $250 for the first offense
  • $500 for each subsequent offense

Each day a violation occurs will be considered a separate offense.

Public Notification

McDonough County ESDA and the McDonough County Sheriff’s Office will notify the public of burn bans and fire safety restrictions using:

  • The McDonough County Alert Emergency Notification System
  • Official social media channels
  • Local news outlets
