At 08:59 AM, Tuesday, November 4th, the Macomb Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire at 711 N Bower Rd for a report of the roof on fire. Fire Department personnel arrived on scene at 09:05 and observed smoke coming from one of the heating units located on the south roof top. The on-duty crew gained access to the roof and met with plant personnel and extinguished the fire.
The fire had extended into interior duct work and had been extinguished by the quick actions of plant personnel. Five firefighters and two chiefs initially responded with two engines, and nine off-duty firefighters were called in to assist at the fire and provide coverage for any additional emergencies. The fire was deemed under control at 09:20 and units cleared at 10:03.
No firefighters or civilians were injured. The estimated loss is $10,000. The fire cause was determined to be an issue within the HVAC unit.
