The Illinois House of Representatives adopted House Joint Resolution 40 Thursday night….a resolution that establishes the Saving Working Families and Easing the Cost of Living Task Force to assess the feasibility of implementing policies focused on reducing the cost of living and enhancing the economic well-being of middle-class and modest-income families.  The task force would be charged with presenting its findings to the General Assembly no later than December 31, 2026.

Many of the policies they would be assessing focus on reducing the cost of living and enhancing the economic well-being of middle class and modest-income families including numerous ideas already proposed by President Trump including the elimination of taxes on tipped wages.

State Representative Kyle Moore (R-Quincy) spoke against the bill saying the middle class and modest income families can’t wait until December of ’26 for help.   He also pointed to numerous policies the Democrats are suggesting in their task for that have already been proposed by Republicans this session that never made it out of the rules committee.  His comments are attached.
