Forty 4-H members from across Illinois were honored at the State Capitol during the University of Illinois’ Extension 4-H Connection event. Representative Dan Swanson of Alpha introduced the group to the House, highlighting how the Legislative Connection event offers a hands-on view of state government. Participants are learning about the legislative process and engaging directly with lawmakers.
The group includes the Illinois 4-H Youth Leadership Team and members who’ve completed “Speaking for Illinois 4-H” training. Organizers say experiences like this aim to inspire civic involvement and leadership skills in young people, shaping the next generation of community leaders.
