West Prairie Trap Team Places 2nd In State

The West Prairie Trap Shooting Team placed 2nd in the class 2A state tournament novice division at Bunker Hill on Sunday, June 2. The novice division is for students shooting an average of 14.99/25 targets in the regular season. Team members were sophomore Charlie Zimmerman, sophomore Kenadie Webster, 8th grader Jemar Whyte, freshman Brexton DeJaynes, and freshman Gauge Caho. Individually, Charlie Zimmerman was 1st place male overall in the novice division with a score of 84/100. Kenadie Webster tied for 2nd place female overall in the novice division with a score of 79/100. The varsity team, individuals shooting a regular season score of 19/25 clays on average, had success as well; senior Brigham Gray shot a team-record 95/100 clays. Additionally, three students shot straight-run 25s (this means they broke 25 targets in a row) – senior Brigham Gray, freshman Ruger Olson, and senior Drew Powell. The tournament was sponsored by the Illinois State High School Clay Target League and is recognized as an emerging IHSA sport.
