Wethersfield High School was announced as a winner in the 1A Division for academic excellence in high school football teams throughout the nation.  Wethersfield High School shares a football team with Annawan High School, the A/W Titans.  According to the Nation Football Federation, the NFF National High School Academic Excellence Awards recognize the top academic high school football team from each level of play in each state.  The awards represent the first nationwide effort to honor individual high school football teams for excellence in the classroom.  Wethersfield School District Superintendent Dr. Andrew Brooks told RegionalMediaNews, “Wethersfield is extremely proud of the hard work and dedication of our athletes both on the field and off. Oftentimes programs only get recognition for their athletic accomplishments, but, as in this case, we are ecstatic that their academic talents are being recognized as well. The district extends its congratulations to the coaches and athletes for their diligence and efforts in the classroom. Go Geese!”

Illinois High School Football Coaches Association Executive Director Kevin Crandall said, “The IHSFCA is excited to see significant growth in our second year awarding the NFF Academic Excellence Award. The opportunity to recognize the programs and coaches in our state who are doing such an excellent job in the classroom along with the playing field is very much appreciated. We are excited to continue the initiative with the National Football Foundation in the future. ”
