In an important update for local drivers, please take note of the traffic rules at the intersection of Tenney Street and McClure Street regarding the “No Turn on Red When Children Are Present” signs. To ensure the safety of children, turns on red are prohibited when children are visible around the intersection, including on sidewalks or in the crosswalks. However, it is permissible to turn right on red cautiously if children are seen inside the fenced school property. Community safety is a top priority, and adhering to these rules during school drop-off and pickup times is crucial. Let’s work together to keep our kids safe.

In a statement by Superintendent Dr. Brooks on Facebook, “After discussions with Chief Kijanowski, it is important to clarify that this rule is in effect on school days when children are present and near the intersection. This applies when school children are in close proximity to the intersection, and there exists a potential hazard due to motorized traffic.”

It is NOT PERMISSABLE to turn right on red in the following situations:
1. Children are walking on the sidewalks leading up to and away from the intersection.
2. Children are walking on/in the street leading up to and away from the intersection.
3. Children are in the actual crosswalks crossing either street.

It is PERMISSABLE to turn right on red with CAUTION in the following situation:
1. Children are present but are on school property inside the fenced property.
