MACOMB, IL – Western Illinois University has announced it will be holding a reception to honor University Communications and Marketing assistant vice president Darcie Shinberger, who will be retiring effective December 31st after 30 years of service. The reception will be held Friday, December 9th, in the Sherman Hall Auditorium (third floor) from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m.
Shinberger joined University Relations (now University Communications & Marketing) in March 1994 as an editorial writer and public relations specialist. In February 2008, she was named director after having served as interim director/assistant director for the past year. During her time at WIU, she took over the direction of University Photography and University Television before being named assistant vice president of University Relations in July 2012.
In 2020, Shinberger established the then-Division of Communications, which included University Communications, University Marketing, University Photography and Design, University Television, and University Printing and Mailing Center. It would be renamed as Division of Communications, Marketing, and Media Relations in Fall 2021.
