Wyatt Brieser has been named the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Hammond-Henry Hospital after a nationwide search led by the board of directors. Brieser, a native of Henry County and longtime hospital staff member, steps into the leadership role beginning in July. The appointment comes at a significant time for the Geneseo facility, as it prepares to celebrate its 125th anniversary in 2026. Brieser’s deep roots in the community and extensive experience at Hammond-Henry are expected to shape the hospital’s future as it continues to serve local healthcare needs.

“My roots in this community run deep,” said Brieser. “Working at Hammond-Henry Hospital over the last 15 years has allowed me to become more aware of the integrity, responsibility, and resiliency that must accompany our employment. I believe that Hammond-Henry’s success is dependent on our ability to grow with the times while holding tightly to our core values. I will pursue sustainable growth while maintaining patient, provider, and employee satisfaction.

“With due respect to the barriers and obstacles that lie ahead of us, I take comfort in knowing who we are and what Hammond-Henry stands for. I know that we have great potential for continued excellence in healthcare,” he continued. “Furthermore, I believe that we can do it at a level of quality, compassion, and value that surpasses the standard in our nation. I am honored and excited to lead those efforts.”

Expansion and innovation continue at Hammond-Henry Hospital, thanks to Brieser’s leadership. He has been pivotal in attracting new physicians and launching added services, including neurology, chiropractic care, pain management, and soon-to-arrive rheumatology and orthopedic surgery. Recent technology upgrades—such as advanced MRI, fluoroscopy, and 3-D mammography—were led by Brieser, alongside a $1 million laboratory renovation in 2023. Brieser also managed the Long Term Care Living Center during the COVID pandemic. Beyond healthcare, he supports local youth athletics, coordinates community seminars, and maintains active roles at the Geneseo Kiwanis Club and St. Anthony’s Church.

“Hammond-Henry Hospital and the Henry County community continue to offer me opportunities to advance and grow. I’ve had so many champions in my life to love, support, and mentor me. It has become my personal mission to return that love and support to this community,” said Brieser. “As I’ve grown at Hammond-Henry, my platform to accomplish this mission has expanded. I’ll never fully repay the kindness that has been offered to me, but there will be continued effort and intent to do so.”

Hospital leadership is reaffirming its commitment to enhancing community well-being, with CEO Brieser emphasizing a renewed focus on foundational values and service. Brieser outlined a vision where patient care remains a calling, promising dignity and holistic support that extends beyond medical treatment. A strong culture of innovation and professional growth for employees is also at the center of the hospital’s plan, ensuring opportunities from entry-level roles to specialized providers. The hospital aims to play a larger role in community health, promoting education, volunteerism, and engagement while tackling social determinants of health through resource sharing and collaborative initiatives.

“I can promise you the same effort, dedication, and passion that you have become accustomed to in my tenure. My role as VPO has positioned me for this opportunity, and I will continue to grow under the tutelage of the board, our providers, managers, employees, and community,” he concluded.

The Illinois Critical Access Hospital Network has recognized Brieser as one of its distinguished “4 Under 40” Hospital Leadership Award winners for 2024. Brieser’s impressive academic background includes a Bachelor’s in Psychology from Augustana College, an MBA from St. Ambrose University, and a Doctor of Physical Therapy from Washington University in St. Louis. His leadership and dedication are noted as key factors in this honor. Outside of his professional achievements, Brieser enjoys family life with his wife, Hannah, their son Brooks, their daughter Maddox—affectionately known as “Moxie”—and is anticipating the arrival of another child in September.
