Marseille-based trio Zar Electrik is making waves in the world music scene, skillfully blending traditional African instruments with dynamic electronic beats. Their name pays homage to a healing ritual from the Horn of Africa, setting the tone for their immersive, communal sound. Singer-instrumentalists Anass Zine and Arthur Péneau—joined by producer Didier Miosine—combine Maghreb, sub-Saharan, and Western electronic influences, resulting in what NPR Music calls “a sub-Saharan rave sung in Arabic, French, and Darija.” Their live shows invite listeners on a transcendent journey, merging centuries-old Gnawa traditions with hypnotic, modern soundscapes.
