Evacuations follow flash flooding

Flash flooding is occurring along sections of the Kankakee River as ice jams are giving way after recent rains.

Downtown Wilmington is under water after the river rose three feet in one hour overnight. Evacuations are underway as the river continues to rise from continued ice melt.

A flash flood warning is in effect until Saturday morning.

Suspect’s girlfriend arrested

The girlfriend of the man who allegedly murdered seven of his family members in Joliet has been released on electronic monitoring following her arrest.

Kyleigh Cleveland-Singleton is charged with obstruction of justice in regard to the investigation into the homicides. She was identified as the girlfriend of the suspect, Romeo Nance, and the mother of his 3-year-old boy.

Detectives contend Cleveland-Singleton made statements in order to prevent the arrest of Nance, who police say killed himself in Texas when confronted.

Naperville scraps migrant housing plan

Naperville has scrapped plans to allow residents to house migrants in their homes. The city was considering putting together a list of residents willing to bring migrants into their homes.

City officials have decided that there are other state and federal agencies compiling lists of shelters to house migrants, so it is not necessary for Naperville residents to help out. The decision comes one week from Chicago’s deadline for when migrants will start being evicted from shelters.
