Grant announced for O’Hare

Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport is one of 100 airports across the country receiving nearly $1 billion in grants from the Federal Aviation Administration as part of the 2021 federal infrastructure law.

O’Hare landed an additional $40 million to make upgrades, including widening a terminal and making changes to a security checkpoint and baggage system. That is on top of a $50 million grant it received last year for similar work.

500 paratransit vehicles awarded

The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that more than 500 paratransit vehicles valued at $57 million have been awarded to 113 transit providers through its Consolidated Vehicle Procurement Program.

The vehicles will be delivered to public transportation providers as well as nonprofit organizations serving seniors and individuals with disabilities. An award of 41 vehicles, the program’s largest, goes to Rides Mass Transit District, which serves 18 counties in southern Illinois.

Insurance scammer sentenced

The owner of a Kenilworth insurance agency has been sentenced to seven years in prison for swindling more than $1 million from clients by collecting premiums for policies he never purchased.

Prosecutors said Daniel Rosenbaum instead used the money he collected from 18 clients, including family members, for his own benefit. He attempted to conceal the fraud by creating fake annuity documents, some of which contained the logos of legitimate insurance companies that Rosenbaum had cut and pasted into the documents.
