Migrant arrested

A foreign national with ties to a Venezuelan cartel was arrested this month in connection with a shooting.

Adelvis Rodriguez-Carmona was taken into custody March 11 by ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations outside his residence. Police say he allegedly jumped out of an SUV and shot at a woman in Chicago in February. She is listed in critical condition.

Tollway scam warning

Illinois authorities are warning of a text scam making the rounds.

The text, which claims to be from the “Illinois toll way,” informs the recipient that they have an outstanding toll bill. To pay the toll and avoid a late fee, recipients are asked to follow a link.

Macon County law enforcement says this is a scam and urges people not to click on the link or respond with personal information.

Makers Madness voting continues

The field of contenders for the 2024 title of The Coolest Thing Made in Illinois has been narrowed further, with voters choosing the Top 8 products to move ahead in the fifth annual “Makers Madness” contest.

Hosted by the Illinois Manufacturers’ Association, the bracket-style tournament lets voters across the state decide which product is The Coolest Thing Made in the state.

Last year’s winner was the Rosenberg Moon Habitat, a 3D printed polymer structure designed to house humans on the moon, manufactured by Ingersoll Machine Tools in Rockford.
