Mandatory paid leave rules hearing pushed to March

The Joint Committee on Administrative Rules has pushed approval of the new Paid Leave for All Workers Act rules until the group’s March hearing.

The Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce reviewed comments from Republican and Democrat members with concerns over the possible changes. The law allows workers to earn up to 40 hours of leave from work each year.

The Illinois Department of Labor plans webinars about the policy Feb. 22, March 4 and 21.

Suburban accountant pleads to tax evasion

A suburban Chicago accountant has pleaded guilty to evading more than $3.4 million in federal and state income taxes.

Federal prosecutors announced Imran Mahmood of South Barrington pleaded guilty last week to the charges and could face up to five years in federal prison.

Sentencing is set for June 11.

Rideshare workers to strike Wednesday

Rideshare and food delivery workers in Chicago plan to strike Wednesday. The group Justice for App Workers announced last week that drivers for Uber, Lyft and other similar companies will strike in Chicago, Austin, Texas, Hartford, Connecticut, Miami, Florida, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and other places. They say the workers are being mistreated by app companies.
