Illinois quick hits: State Capitol locked down; Springfield hotel to be auctioned

State Capitol locked down

The Illinois State Capitol was placed on lockdown after a threat was made Tuesday afternoon. Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias posted on X, formerly Twitter, that his office received notice of a threat involving the Capitol.

Out of an abundance of caution, Giannoulias said the Secretary of State Police issued a lockdown and conducted a sweep of the building. The all-clear was given about 3 p.m.

Springfield hotel to be auctioned

The Wyndham Hotel in Springfield may be changing hands soon. The 30-story circular building will go up for an online auction in April.

The structure was built in the 1970s and most recently was rezoned for half the rooms to become apartments. The online listing shows a starting bid of $3 million.

Jonas Brothers to perform at fair

The Illinois State Fair has announced that the Jonas Brothers will be performing Thursday, Aug. 15. With album sales over 20 million and counting, two Grammy award nominations, and 26 Billboard Hot 100 hits, the trio recently claimed a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Tickets for Jonas Brothers go on sale at 10 a.m. March 16 on Ticketmaster. Tickets for all the other announced shows, including Jordan Davis, Keith Urban and Motley Crue, are on sale now.
