Stateville prison to be torn down

The Illinois Department of Corrections has announced plans to tear down and rebuild Stateville Correctional Center. The prison is located north of Joliet in Crest Hill.

Work will begin pending capital appropriations in the fiscal budget for 2025. The state is also planning to replace Logan Correctional Center in Lincoln, but the new location has not been determined yet.

Officials said rebuilding these facilities will also save the state hundreds of millions in deferred maintenance costs that have accrued after decades of neglect.

McDonald’s experienced outage

System failures at Chicago-based McDonald’s were reported worldwide Friday, closing some restaurants for hours in what the company is calling a “technology outage.”

Company officials said the problems were not related to a cybersecurity attack, but didn’t reveal what caused them. The website Downdetector also reported a spike in problems with the McDonald’s app.
