Tornadoes confirmed
Two tornadoes touched down in Kankakee County Tuesday as a storm system swept through Illinois. One of the twisters was reported west of Manteno and the other touchdown occurred north of Herscher, but no major damage was reported.
If confirmed, the two twisters would add to the 20 already reported in Illinois this year. The state has experienced the third-most tornadoes in the country, behind Florida’s 30 and Ohio’s 26.
Rabies clinic begins April 13
The Cook County Department of Animal and Rabies Control is kicking off its Partners in Prevention clinics beginning Saturday, April 13.
Through October, the agency is partnering with local animal organizations to offer low-cost or free one-year rabies vaccines as well as microchips. Officials remind residents that rabies is always fatal to unvaccinated pets. Rabies vaccines are required in the state of Illinois.
Eclipse parking advisory
As people prepare to set out to view the solar eclipse on April 8, the Illinois Department of Natural Resources is sending out a reminder that that is also the first day of spring turkey hunting season.
Officials are asking both eclipse viewers and turkey hunters to be mindful of each other. Officials are asking eclipse visitors to state parks to park in designated lots, and not spots designated for hunters.
