(SRN NEWS) – Two U.S. service members have been killed in action in Jordan following an Iranian missile attack Friday, according to U.S. Central Command.

CENTCOM says another American service member remains missing, while four others were injured in the strike. Military officials are withholding additional details until at least 24 hours after family notifications have been completed.

The attack comes amid escalating tensions between Washington and Tehran. About a month after signing a memorandum of understanding aimed at reducing hostilities, Iran and the United States suspended the agreement.

Since then, Iran has continued attacks against shipping in and around the Strait of Hormuz. In response, the U.S. military has carried out strikes targeting Iranian infrastructure.

The latest casualties mark a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict between the two countries. CENTCOM says additional information will be released as it becomes available.
