Dolton mayor blocks spending transparency

Dolton Mayor Tiffany Henyard is resisting efforts to look into her spending of village funds.

During a village board meeting Monday night, Henyard vetoed a resolution passed by village trustees to begin an investigation. The mayor admits to a $2 million deficit, but trustees said it’s millions more. They said they have the votes to override the veto and plan to do so at next month’s village meeting.

Report internet speeds

The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity is asking Illinoisans to document their internet speeds for the BEAD map challenge.

Officials said the results will help create a more accurate map of unserved and underserved areas for internet access across the state. The state will then disburse internet access funding for places that need it the most.
