Mail carriers to picket

The Illinois State Association of Letter Carriers will hold an informational picket Monday to voice their objections to Postmaster General Louis DeJoy’s “Delivering for America” plan during his upcoming visit to Downers Grove.

Carriers said the ongoing implementation of a restructuring will impact daily collection, delivery and processing of mail. The plan includes the elimination of mail processing at Processing and Distribution Centers located in Champaign, Springfield, Peoria and the Quad Cities.

Measles spreads to Lake County

The recent rash of measles cases in Chicago is spreading. A new case was confirmed in Lake County on Saturday.

Officials from the Lake County Health Department confirmed that a resident contracted measles and that it was connected to the outbreak that began in a migrant shelter. It is the 18th confirmed measles case since the start of the year.

Trooper injured by passing vehicle

An Illinois state trooper was injured after being struck by a passing vehicle while investigating a crash Monday morning. The incident happened on Interstate-94 near the Chicago Skyway at 2:30 a.m.

ISP said the trooper and an Illinois Department of Transportation worker were inside their vehicles at the time of the crash. The trooper and the driver of the passing vehicle were transported to hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.
