Naperville ranked 8th safest city

A northern Illinois community has made the list of the safest cities in America for 2024. According to MoneyGeek, Naperville ranked as the eighth safest city in the country, down from the top spot last year.

The ranking looked at more than 300 cities with populations more than 100,000 and analyzed them based on crime statistics from the FBI. Thousand Oaks, California, was named the safest city in the U.S.

DMV in Springfield reopens

The Illinois Secretary of State’s Office has announced the reopening of the Driver and Motor Vehicle facility in Springfield.

The facility has been closed since September for renovation, including remodeling and an overhaul of the plumbing system. The reopening is ahead of schedule . It was originally set to open later this month.

Zoo looking for piranha tank donation

A Central Illinois zoo is seeking help in acquiring a new aquarium after the tank that was home to piranhas sprung a leak.

Officials at the Miller Park Zoo in Bloomington said the piranhas were safely transferred to another small aquarium in the zookeepers kitchen. Now they are looking for someone to donate a 125-150 gallon aquarium that holds enough water for the piranhas.
