Police warn of robbery spree

People waiting for a rideshare pickup have been targeted in a series of robberies in at least two Chicago neighborhoods.

Police sent out a community alert to warn the public of the string of incidents, particularly those who frequent bars in the Wrigleyville and Gold Coast neighborhoods.

In most cases, the victims had just left a bar and were waiting for a ride when they were robbed. At least 13 such cases have been reported since January.

Legal board recommends attorney suspension

A legal disciplinary board is recommending a suspension for a lawyer who ran for Illinois attorney general.

A hearing board with the Illinois Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission has recommended a 60-day suspension of Tom DeVore, the Bond County attorney who made a name for himself challenging COVID-19 pandemic orders.

The board cited a series of infractions, including having a relationship with a client whom he represented in challenging the pandemic restrictions in 2020.

Biden delivers speech in Chicago

Former President Joe Biden warned on Tuesday night during a speech in Chicago that President Donald Trump has “taken a hatchet” to Social Security as the 82-year-old Democrat briefly returned to the national stage.

Biden, who has largely avoided speaking publicly since leaving the White House in January, gave an evening speech at the national conference of Advocates, Counselors and Representatives for the Disabled.

The Trump administration denies it plans to cut Social Security benefits.
