State tax refund timeline

Illinoisans may have to wait longer this year to receive their tax refunds from the state.

According to the Illinois Department of Revenue, those who file their returns electronically will see their refund deposited into their checking or savings account quicker than those who file paper returns.

The state also warned taxpayers that Illinois state refunds could take longer than expected as the department continues efforts to prevent identity theft and fraud.

Chicago among noisiest

A new study finds that Chicago is one of the noisiest largest cities in the country.

Steel Guard Safety, a noise control product manufacturer behind the study, said the city’s airports and traffic density help place Chicago as the second noisiest city in the U.S.

New York took the No. 1 spot for the noisiest city, with Jersey City, Newark and Boston rounding out the top five.

Storm spotter training

The National Weather Service offices in Lincoln, Chicago and St. Louis have released their schedule for this spring’s Storm Spotter training.

The classes are designed to help individuals identify features of severe storms and understand basic radar imagery.

The courses this year come after the National Weather Service stated that wind farms are creating a need for more storm spotters around the state.
