Two SIU students killed in head-on crash

Two Southern Illinois University students were killed in a head-on crash in Carbondale on Monday morning. The Jackson County Coroner’s Office identified the victims as 19-year-old Wolfgang Gustaveson, of Park Ridge, and 18-year-old Francis Martinez, of Des Plaines. Police said they both attended Southern Illinois University at Carbondale and were living on campus. The sole occupant of the southbound vehicle suffered serious injuries, and was taken to Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.

New cannabis dispensary opens in Waukegan

The owners of he world’s largest cannabis dispensary officially set up shop in Illinois ON Monday. The Las Vegas-based Planet 13 held a grand opening for its new dispensary in Waukegan. The company is known for being a high-tech cannabis retailer that offers a unique, interactive experience. Planet 13 said its Las Vegas location is the largest in the world and features a cannabis consumption lounge.

Pritzker hosts Gold Star families for tree-lighting ceremony

Gov. J.B. Pritzker joined active duty military members, veterans, and Gold Star families at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum in Springfield for the Gold Star Tree Lighting ceremony. The ceremony pays tribute to Illinois’ veterans, fallen heroes, and their families. The Gold Star families in attendance at the ceremony were able to place a commemorative ornament on the tree in honor of their loved ones.
