KEWANEE – Andrew W. “Andy” Koehler, 79, of Kewanee, died at 4:45 a.m., Monday, February 3, 2025 at Arcadia Care at Kewanee.
He was born October 15, 1945 in Chicago, the son of Wilfred and Betty (Swedman) Koehler. Survivors include his three sisters; Kristen Parish of Kewanee, Mary Garrett of Elmwood and Nancy (Todd) Swinderman of Palm Coast, FL and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Tom Koehler, nephew, Zak Parish and a niece, Summer Parish.
Andy served his country in the U.S. Navy and graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in finance. He worked for the City of Kewanee in the water department and served 2 and a half terms on the Kewanee City Council. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and was extremely proud of his car collection.
Andy was a lifetime member of the Factory City VFW Post 8070 and was instrumental in signing up many other lifetime members. It was his passion. He was one of the founding members of the HCVAC (Henry County Veterans Assistance Commission); the VFW Color Guard, marching in parades and attending all home football and basketball games at Kewanee High School was a favorite pastime of his. He rarely missed an event. After climbing the ladder from several offices and many years as Quartermaster at Post 8078, Andy served 3 consecutive terms as Commander, from 1984-87. Last but not least, upon getting out of the Navy in 1971, Andy worked for the LA Dodgers Spring Training Camp in Vero Beach, FL from 1971-75.
Cremation will be accorded and military rites will be accorded at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 8 at the VFW in Kewanee followed by a Celebration of Life gathering. Memorials may be directed to VFW Post 8078 in Kewanee. Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee is assisting the family arrangements.
