1942-2024
Barbara Kay Bown, age 81, of Macomb, Illinois, went to be with our Lord and Savior on July 4, 2024. She was born July 16, 1942, on the family farm in Macomb, to Joseph and Hazel (Rigg) Bown.
She is survived by her sister, Judy (Bown) Everhart of West Des Moines, Iowa; her brother-in-law, Charles Guy of Tennessee, Illinois; four nieces: Kathy (Scot) MacKenzie of Columbia, Illinois; Kim (Ron) McCoy, of Metamora, Illinois; Tammy (Phil) Niemeyer of Cypress, Texas; and Debbie (Matt) Gausman of Waukee, Iowa; 7 great nieces and nephews; and 5 great great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Sara Jo Guy; and her brother-in-law, Gary Everhart.
Barb graduated from Macomb High School in 1960, where she was a cheerleader, played clarinet in the band, and sang in the choir. She was also a member of the Pops Trio with her sister, Sara Jo, and Aldena (Purdy) Everhart.
Barb quickly completed the program at Gem City Business College in Quincy, Illinois, and was certified in 1961. She held numerous secretarial jobs throughout her career, including Citizens Bank in Macomb as well as positions on the East Coast and in Colorado.
An avid seamstress and crafter, Barb made many gifts for family and friends throughout the years, including crochet, ceramics, and macrame. She loved being an aunt to her young nieces, even creating a special bunk room for them at the family farmhouse.
he family wishes to extend its thanks to the staff of Countryview Care Center of Macomb and Traditions Hospice of Macomb, for the care they provided Barb in recent years.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at Clugston-Tibbitts Funeral Home in Macomb with Lisa Crowder, Traditions Hospice Chaplain, officiating. Private internment will be held prior to the service. Memorials may be made to Traditions Hospice of Macomb. Condolences and memories may be expressed to the family at the service.
