KEWANEE – Delores A. Shimmin, 85, of Kewanee, died at 5:21 p.m., Saturday, August 31, 2024 at Hammond-Henry Hospital Long Term Care Living Center in Geneseo.
She was born June 17, 1939 in Kewanee, the daughter of Lawrence and Lucille (Bennett) Beyer. She married Robert J. Shimmin on July 28, 1957 in Kewanee and he preceded her in death on September 26, 2008. Survivors include her daughter, Rhonda (Brian) McKinstry of Grant Park, IL, two sons, Lawrence (Karen) Shimmin of Coal Valley and Michael (Melinda) Shimmin of Kewanee, AFS daughter, Barbara (Val) Lazzarina Adami of Brisbane, Australia; her grandchildren, Erica Ann (Todd) Tholl, Mackenzie Shimmin, Marshall (Caseelynn) Shimmin and Mitchell Shimmin, Patrick Hayes, Clayton and Shelby McKinstry and Val Adami Jr. and Nicholas Adami, a great-grandson, Chase Tholl, three sisters; Beverly (Dale) Williams of Kewanee, Mary (Ron) Keim of Moline and Bonnie Thompson of Princeton and two step-sisters, Jeanne (Larry) Roller of Monticello and Bonnie Keeney of Texas. She was also preceded in death by her father and mother and stepfather, Lucille and Marvin Keeney and brother-in-law, Jerry Workman.
Delores graduated from Wethersfield High School in 1957. She had worked as a data processor for Kewanee Hospital. She was a member of the Church of Peace and the Peacemakers at the church. She was also a member of a card club. Most of all, she cherished her family and loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, September 5 at Church of Peace in rural Kewanee with Pastor Andrew Christman officiating. A visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the services at the church. The burial will be in the Garden of Peace Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Church of Peace or to Wethersfield School.
