    Very cold wind chills around 20 below.

    Portions of north central and northwest Illinois and east central, northeast, and southeast Iowa.

    Until 2 AM CST Wednesday.
    IMPACTS
    The dangerously cold wind chills as low as 20 below zero could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 20 to 30 minutes. Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin is exposed to these temperatures.
    PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS
    Use caution while traveling outside. Wear appropriate clothing, a hat, and gloves. Keep pets indoors as much as possible. Make sure outdoor animals have a warm, dry shelter, food, and unfrozen water. Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors. Ensure portable heaters are used correctly. Do not use generators or grills inside.

Helen Thorman
1939-2024

Helen Louise Thorman, age 85 of Macomb, passed away on November 15, 2024.  She was born on June 26, 1939 in Macomb, Illinois to Wayne & Jenny Foster Ferris.  Helen married Wayne Thorman on June 2, 1957, he survives.    Also surviving are her children: Julie (Chris) Schwerer of Blandinsville, Gene (Sue) Thorman, Jeff Thorman, Cathy (Bruce) Ackers and Jamie (Mick) Cumbie all of Macomb; grandchildren: Leigh Thorman of Macomb, Lyndi (Jael) Laborn of Cibolo, TX, Jared (Ashley Leavitt) Schwerer of Blandinsville, Kimberly (Michael) Anderson of Japan, Caleb (Bri) Ackers of Peoria, IL, Cory (Brooklin) Thorman of Macomb, Jennifer Schwerer of Blandinsville, Jordan Thorman of Seneca, IL, and Grace Ackers of Macomb; and great grandchildren Zander & Zayne Laborn, Kane & Klay Thorman, and expecting Isabella Ackers.  Helen was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings and in-laws: Dale (Isabelle) Ferris, Keith (Doris) Ferris, Frank (Edna) Ferris, Howard (Kate) Ferris, and Joyce (Raymond) Boden.

Helen was a graduate of Macomb High School.  A week after high school she and Wayne were married at Pennington Point Methodist Chapel.  Together they owned Thorman Dairy Farm.   As their children began having their own, Helen babysat several of her grandchildren.  Later in life Helen was inspired to earn her CNA's license and worked at Elms Nursing Home from 1996-2004.  Both Helen and Wayne retired in 2004.  Helen greatly enjoyed staying active by following all the children's and grandchildren's activities and events.  Helen was a member of Scotland Trinity Presbyterian Church where she had served as treasurer and elder.  She enjoyed being creative with crafts and she was an outstanding cook, particularly known for her noodles, homemade pies, and Christmas time cinnamon rolls.

The family will receive friends and family for visitation at Clugston-Tibbitts Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 20th from 5-7 pm.  To accommodate family participation, the funeral service will be held on Friday, December 20th at 11 am at First Christian Church, officiated by Kelly Ingersoll.  Cremation rites will be accorded following the visitation and private burial of ashes at a later date at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.  The family wishes to thank the staff at the Elms Nursing Home, McDonough District Hospital, and MDH Hospice. Memorials may be made to Elms Nursing Home or MDH Hospice.
