    Very cold wind chills around 20 below.
    WHERE
    Portions of north central and northwest Illinois and east central, northeast, and southeast Iowa.

    Until 2 AM CST Wednesday.
    IMPACTS
    The dangerously cold wind chills as low as 20 below zero could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 20 to 30 minutes. Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin is exposed to these temperatures.
    PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS
    Use caution while traveling outside. Wear appropriate clothing, a hat, and gloves. Keep pets indoors as much as possible. Make sure outdoor animals have a warm, dry shelter, food, and unfrozen water. Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors. Ensure portable heaters are used correctly. Do not use generators or grills inside.

James Martin Sr
1935-2024

James A. “Jim” Martin Sr, 89, of Industry passed away at 11 p.m. Sunday, November 3, 2024 at the Elms Nursing Home in Macomb.

He was born on May 20, 1935 in rural Industry to Howard and Marie Danner Martin. He married his loving wife of 68 years,  Joyce Litchfield on June 9, 1956 in Macomb. She survives.

Jim and Joyce have three children, Julie (Scott) Adair of Macomb, Joe (Melissa) Martin of Macomb and Jerry (Heather Downs) Martin of Industry; seven grandchildren, Dustin, Kylie, Hailey, Beau, Addi, Gavin and Ella; six step grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; twelve step-great-grandchildren; sister, Doris Carman of Macomb; several nieces and nephews and his cocker spaniel, “Freckles”.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, James Martin, Jr; two brothers, Wayne and Harland Martin and one brother-in-law, Stan Carman.

Jim was a mechanic by trade his entire life including John Deere for over 30 years, owned and operated Martin’s Service in Industry for several years and Farm King as a mechanic retiring in 2018 at the age of 83.

Jim was a volunteer fireman his entire life, serving first in Blandinsville and later in Industry where he served for 35 years from 1983 to 2018. He served several of those years as chief.

Jim was well known for his experience and expertise working on John Deere tractors. He also mentored many younger guys during his career. Jim also gained many lifelong friendships thoughout his career.

Jim had a great sense of humor and a big heart.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 30, 2024 from 2 to 4 p.m at the Industry Fire House.

Memorials may be made to the Industry Fire Department or MDH Hospice.
