Kenneth Joe Lawyer, 78, of Industry, Illinois, passed away on Thursday, March 6, 2025, at Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Born on April 14, 1946, in Macomb to Leland "Bud" and Elizabeth (Roe) Lawyer. He was a 1964 graduate of Industry High School. He married Rebecca Toland on October 7, 1967, who survives him.

Joe is also survived by his granddaughters Maria Elizabeth Lawyer and April Olivia Lawyer, their mother Gretchen Lawyer, and several nieces and nephews. He leaves behind sisters-in-law Debbie Menke, Beverly Lawyer, Jill Bainter, Shirley Hanratty, and Debbie Bainter, as well as brothers-in-law Lyle Menke and Chuck Bainter. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sons, Jared Lawyer and Nick Lawyer, two brothers Burdette (Chuck) Lawyer, John Lawyer and brother-in-law Steve Bainter.

Throughout his life, Joe demonstrated a strong work ethic. He began his career on the family farm before exploring various jobs in his early years. Joe then began a long and successful career in manufacturing, serving as a manufacturing supervisor in Macomb for many years. He later worked in Iowa appliance manufacturing for 13 years until his retirement.

Joe was a man of many skills. He took great pleasure in working with his draft horses and raising hogs and sheep. He completed many home projects over the years with his carpentry, plumbing and electrical skills. If there was a project that needed to be done he would figure out a way to do it.  Joe's skills were widely admired. His kind and giving nature was evident in his willingness to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.

Joe was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who treasured his family. He enjoyed hitching up the horses with the boys and leading Sunday "parades" when the children were young. Over the years, Joe loved attending the state fair with his family. These trips became a cherished annual family tradition that his granddaughters enjoyed, sharing his appreciation for farming and rural life with them.

Joe's hard work, craftsmanship, generosity and love for his family  will be remembered by all who knew him. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and community.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A Celebration of Joe’s Life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 14, 2025 at Clugston-Tibbitts Funeral Home in Macomb with Lyle Menke officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Private burial of ashes will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Village of Industry for the preservation of the landmark Industry Windmill or a memorial of your choice.
