Treva Walker
1936-2025

Treva Walker 88, of Macomb, Illinois (formerly of Augusta, Illinois), passed away peacefully on January 4, 2025 in her residence at Wesley Village in Macomb. She was born April 16, 1936, in Macomb to Harry and Rosann (Smith) Toland.

Treva grew up on the family farm near Bardolph, Illinois and graduated from Bardolph High School. She then attended Western Illinois University to earn a degree in home economics. Treva met her husband, John Walker, at WIU.  They married in 1956 and had four children: Lea Ann, Diane, Valerie and Melanie. After graduation, Treva took a position as the home economics teacher at Augusta High School in Hancock County.

Treva was a popular and energetic teacher at Augusta High (later Southeastern High School) for almost 20 years. At Southeastern, Treva taught Home Economics, Bachelor Living, Family Living, and sponsored the cheerleaders and the FHA.

Treva attended the United Methodist Church in Augusta and served on the Augusta Village council for many years, including a term as village mayor.

After leaving Southeastern, Treva worked for the University of Illinois Home Extension Service for ten years, first in Schuyler County and later in Tazewell County. In Tazewell County, she was certified a Master Gardener and implemented the master gardener instructional program.

After retirement, Treva moved back to Augusta, where she worked on the local newspaper, gardened, and enjoyed her grandchildren: Sam Berry, and Trent and Emma Rodriguez.

When her health began to decline, she moved to Wesley Village in Macomb.  She enjoyed her time living there and all the wonderful friends she made over the years.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Trenton Toland.  Surviving is her sister Tina (Bill) Beck of Avon, Indiana, her brother Trevor Toland of Macomb, four daughters, three grandchildren and one great grandchild, Griffin Berry, along with five nieces.
